Sheephorn Ranch:
This fly fishing ranch consists of 3 lakes. The lower 2 lakes
contain nice rainbow trout and cutbows with an occasional
brown trout. They are a good warm-up for the upper lake
that is the crown jewel of the property.
The upper lake is located at about 10,000 feet and is
accessible only by 4-wheel-drive. The views from the lake
are breathtaking, and the fishing is some of the most
spectacular high lake fishing in Colorado! Last season while
belly boating the lake, a large black bear came down for a
drink and was kind enough to let us observe him at a
distance most of the afternoon.
This lake has produced big brook trout up to 20 inches with
large brookies 15-18 inches caught almost every trip. The
lake also has some large cut-bows, and a handful of big
rainbow trout also call the lake home.
As long as the weather is nice, the dry fly fishing is amazing.
These hungry brook trout often attack large foam flies with
stunning aggression. Anglers stalking along the shoreline
can target individual fish as they feed along the banks. This
makes making for exciting Colorado fly fishing action!
