Fly Fishing on the South Platte Near Denver

Date: May 7, 2007

Location: North Fork of The South Platte

Guide: Jake Goin 2 clients full day trip.

Weather: Cloudy morning- snow and rain in the afternoon.

River Condition: Slightly off color and 125 cfs.  Water was really cold in the upper 30’s

Report:
Fishing was great!  The slightly off color water allowed for bigger flies and heavier tippets.  We started off the day with several nice fish landed as well as several nice ones lost after great fights. Janelle landed a gorgeous big brown trout as her first fish of the day, a nice surprise!

Excellent fishing continued throughout the day with the hungry trout hitting large stonefly and caddis patterns.

Fishing should continue to be very good even as the waters rise from runoff.  Also some of our smaller waters should fish excellent for the next few weeks.
